about

The Bipolar Express is Napolean Solo’s only album, but it’s a great one—the product of good times and bad beer and ugly tape hiss. This clear vinyl exclusive features brand-new artwork, updated from the original ‘90s/’00s cassettes & CDs. All songs co-written by Napolean Solo and Rudy Charisma, probably at the bar at 9th & Russell in Soulard. Recorded in St. Louis at South 17th Street using a TASCAM Portastudio 4-track and an Apple Power Macintosh 7200.

Napolean played all bass and drums. He sang on everything but 4 & 8. Rudy handled all the guitars (except for 7 & 8) and sampling. Rudy also did some piano, kalimba, keyboards, percussion, and feedback.

Nappy grilled the steaks and mixed the drinks, Rudy grilled the tracks and mixed the songs. Originally released by Mossvelvet Recordings, 1996. We apologize in advance for our oral seizures and your aural discomfort.

They recorded as The Belts, then morphed into Rare White Squirrel. After moving to Saint Louis, Missouri he went solo, but by 1997 his output had dwindled to nothing. He has recorded just a handful of songs since then. ... more
